Seizure Helmets

Wearing a helmet has become a big part of my life. The reason for wearing it is that I have seizures. Sometimes I have drop seizures that cause me to fall. This big bulky thing on my head gives me enough cushion to protect me from causing any kind of head trauma.

I have gotten used to wearing my helmet pretty much, so much to the point that sometimes I forget I'm wearing it. The only thing I hate about it is when people see me they stop and stare or even make fun of me. I have even been called freak or retarded, witch at times makes me upset. I just get on with my life and remind myself that it's for my own protection.

Since starting to wear the helmet I have been trying to be myself even on YouTube. I have started a channel called brotherjohnspeaks as kind of a way to raise awareness for epilepsy and other seizure disorders. It's also kind of a Christian outreach to others with seizures, as I also share my faith and love for the Lord Jesus.

When I first got the helmet I was having a hard time finding a dealer that sold them. So I'm gonna leave some links for other who may be looking to get a seizure helmet.

Medication Zombies

One part of being an epileptic is having to take large doses of medication. I myself have 4 different types of medications to control my seizures, my doses on each one range anywhere from 500mg to 2000mg. Side effects from most medications include dizziness, drowsiness, and seizures. That's right, the medication that is supposed to control seizures actually causes them. so the one thing the doctor does is raise the does, making the patient feel more like a medicated zombie.

Although medication makes me feel like a wondering zombie. I have some good days where everything is fine, so I just use those days to enjoy time with my family.

Stressed Out Seizures

One thing that can be a major contributor to seizure activity is stress. Every time I find myself stressed I end up having a seizure.

I know others that don't have epilepsy that have seizures due to stress. If you have epilepsy the seizures are more severe.

One way to avoid stress is not to have to much going on than you can handle. A lot of people try to juggle to many things in there life such as working to much, extra activities etc.

The best thing I find is that it's best to take it slow, one day at a time. Stress is not good when you need to have plenty of rest. Not getting enough sleep causes a person to haves seizures as well.

Well I hope this post was helpful please comment your thoughts and I hope to see you again soon.

Deciding to Quit Work

Deciding to quit working is a hard decision to make as an epileptic. Simply because of overwhelming amount of seizure I have been having. I am on several medications that make me feel drowsy and my hours at work have been cut because of work restrictions.

I work as of now at McDonald's
my doctor has decided that it is no longer safe to work in the kitchen part of the restaurant. Now the only task I am allowed to do clean the  dining room and make salads and take out the trash. Right now I am barely scraping by with 10-13 hours a week. So it's really not worth staying.

One thing I am considering is becoming a full time blogger. I have been watching a lot of  videos about how blogging can make you a half decent income. So I figured that I can start writing articles that help people and earn a little money on the side. I'm still working just in a safer work area (at my desk).

I figure that if I do have a seizure while working at home I can just pick up where I left off when I'm feeling better.

Well I hope to bring you more interesting information in the future
so please join me here again.
